NRG Energy, UI win 200 MW gas-fired peaker contract

26 June 2008 -- NRG Energy Inc. (NRG) and the United Illuminating Co. (UI) say they have contracted to build approximately 200 MW of new peaking generation at NRG's existing Devon plant in Connecticut.

The peaking plant will be owned by GenConn Energy LLC, a 50-50 partnership between UI and NRG. The new 194 MW gas-fired facility is one of three projects chosen to provide peaking power for the state.

Financial details of the project have not yet been released. The new Devon peaking plant is scheduled to be in operation by June 1, 2010.
