PPL to double Holtwood hydroelectric

16 June 2008 -- PPL recently asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for permission to expand the Holtwood hydroelectric plant in Pennsylvania, in a move that would add 125 MW of generating capacity.

The Holtwood hydroelectric plant began generating electricity in 1910. Currently, the 55-foot-high dam generates 109 MW of electricity.

Once permits are received, PPL says it plans to begin construction in 2009 with generation operations scheduled to start in 2012.
