Constellation Energy acquires gas-fired peaker

16 June 2008 -- Constellation Energy said it bought the West Valley gas-fired peaking plant near Salt Lake City, Utah, from a unit of Iberdrola Renewables Inc.

A 200 MW natural gas plant, the West Valley plant was owned by West Valley Leasing Co. LLC., but has been leased to PacifiCorp since the plant began commercial operation in 2002.

The West Valley plant operates during peak demand periods and is limited to operating a certain number of hours per year.

Constellation Energy assumed ownership and began operating the power plant earlier this month.
