17 June 2008 - Swedish electricity industry top manager Lars G Josefsson is the new President of the Union of the Electricity Industry-EURELECTRIC, the association representing the electricity industry at pan-European level.
The EURELECTRIC Board, gathered in Barcelona for the Annual Conference this week, unanimously elected Mr Josefsson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sweden-based electricity company Vattenfall, to succeed Rafael Miranda as President with a three-year mandate.
Fulvio Conti, CEO and General Manager of Italy's leading electricity group ENEL, was elected Vice President. Congratulating Mr Josefsson on his appointment, outgoing President Rafael Miranda described him as an "outstanding representative of the electricity industry.
President and CEO of Vattenfall since 2000 and also a board member of ESKOM Holding Ltd, Lars Josefsson has served as EURELECTRIC Vice President for the past three years and has been highly active in addressing key issues facing the energy industry.
Mr Josefsson promised to take this policy agenda forward, placing particular emphasis in EURELECTRIC's "cooperative work with legislators, regulators and stakeholders to ensure proper coherence between energy market and climate policies.
"Electricity, with its potential to provide a secure, low-emission and competitive energy supply, is a very big part of the solution to energy-climate challenges and we must work with the EU policymakers to optimise the new packages of legislation to that end," said the new President.
