NorthWestern sets value for coal-fired plant

10 June 2008 -- NorthWestern Corp. said it may sell to Bicent Power Co. LLC its 30 percent ownership interest in Colstrip Unit 4, a 740-MW coal-fired plant in Montana, for $404 million (or around $1,820/kW) in cash, pending certain working capital adjustments.

The agreement is intended to allow NorthWestern to work with the Montana Public Service Commission (MPSC) in possibly placing this asset in the rate base to serve its regulated customers. If the asset is placed in rate base, the sale to Bicent will be terminated.

NorthWestern says it plans to make a filing requesting an MPSC decision whether the Colstrip Unit 4 interest should be included in NorthWestern's rate base at the purchase price provided.

Northwestern says it expects the deal to close or to conclude the rate base process with the MPSC in the fourth quarter of 2008.
