AMSC provides 200 MW wind grid support

20 May 2008 -- American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) said it will supply its D-VAR solution for grid interconnection to wind farms in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. The wind farms are said to utilize wind power systems from three different global wind turbine manufacturers.

The D-VAR systems, intended to provide voltage support for more than 200 MW of aggregated power, are slated to be delivered to all four wind farms within the next 12 months.

AMSC's D-VAR systems are designed to help wind farm developers meet local requirements for connecting wind farms to power grids. They are also designed to provide voltage regulation and power factor correction along with post-contingency assistance to prevent voltage collapse on the power grid.
