E.ON seeks German government help in bundling transmission grids

20 May 2008 - German utility group E.ON is appealing to the German government to bundle ultra-high voltage power transmission grids into a unified system, according to the Financial Times, which quoted the group's CEO, Wulf Bernotat.

The newspaper quoted Mr Bernotat as saying that only the German government could play an instrumental role in ensuring the creation of a unified national grid. He noted that E.ON was willing to support the government, if it participates in the bundling process.

Mr Bernotat said: "If other German grid operators were to sell their grids as well, the grids could be bundled into German Power Grid AG, which would lead to development and the realization of synergies."
