PPL, Schering-Plough to develop 1.7 MW solar installation

12 May 2008 -- PPL Renewable Energy said it plans to design, construct and operate a 1.7 MW solar system for Schering-Plough Corp. When completed, the project will reportedly be the largest rooftop solar installation in the United States to date.

With this project, PPL will own or control solar projects with a total installed capacity of about 10 MW.

The solar system will be built on eight rooftops on buildings throughout Schering-Plough's campus. PPL Renewable Energy will own and operate the system and supply power to Schering-Plough. The renewable energy credits will be bought by PPL EnergyPlus, the company's unregulated energy marketing partner.

The project is expected to be operating by the end of 2008.
