RWE drops plans to bid for British Energy

8 May 2008 - RWE has decided to pull out of the bidding for nuclear firm British Energy, reported AFP, citing German business daily Handelsblatt.

This decision of RWE follows media reports according to which the Swedish government has asked Vattenfall, RWE's preferred partner for a bid, not to participate in the bidding.

RWE may bid for individual parts of the company such as certain power stations. The British government wants to sell its 35 per cent stake in British Energy.
