7 May 2008 - The board of French energy group EDF is to hold a special meeting this week on a possible joint bid with UK utility Centrica for a stake in British Energy.
The board will discuss a purchase of the 35.2 per cent of British Energy being offered for sale by the British government.
EDF group, which is also the biggest producer of nuclear energy in the world, is likely to opt to create a joint company for the offer in which gas group Centrica would have an interest of 25 per cent, and EDF 75 per cent.
The British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported on Tuesday that EDF, which is controlled by the French state, was the clear favourite to buy British Energy and might be the sole bidder.
