Tenders submitted for Turkey's first nuclear plant

8 April 2008 - Four international companies have submitted bids for the construction of a nuclear power plant in a southern province of Turkey.

This will be the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, and will be built near Mersin's Akkuyu town.

AECL of Canada, Hochu of Japan, Vinci Corp of France, Suez- Tractabel of Belgium have acquired specifications forms for the tender.

"We expect Turkish companies to set up consortia with experienced foreign firms and join this tender," executives of the Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Ministry said.

The tender for construction of a 4000 MW of nuclear power plant is scheduled for October of this year.

The Turkish Energy Trade & Commitment Corporation will buy the electricity produced at the nuclear power plant for a 15-year period.
