3 April 2008 -- Siemens won a major order for its 2.3 MW wind turbines. The company will supply 141 turbines to two wind farms in Oregon.
The purchases made by Portland General Electric Company (PGE) will increase Oregon's wind power capacity by nearly 325 MW.
Siemens will supply 65 wind turbines for the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phase 2, scheduled to be operational in late 2009, and 76 units for the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phase 3, expected to be on line in late 2010.
PGE expects total project costs for phases two and three of the Biglow Canyon project to remain within the range of $700 million to $800 million, including allowance for funds used during construction.
With the addition of Phase 2 and Phase 3, PGE will bring the total capacity of its Biglow Canyon Wind Farm to approximately 450 MW. The Siemens scope of supply consists of delivery, installation and commissioning of the 141 SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines, including a five- year warranty and separate service and maintenance agreement.
The announcement comes on the heels of a similar contract with two wind farms in Washington state. Siemens will provide 130 of their 2.3 MW turbines to Cascade Wind Acquisition LLC for projects slated to be completed in 2008 and 2009. Siemens will also provide service and maintenance to the Washington farms for two years.
The Oregon and Washington turbine contracts combined are said to be worth more than $1.1 billion.
