2 April 2008 - Imera Power, the company which is building two electricity interconnectors across the Irish Sea has been awarded licences to lay two new interconnectors linking the French and UK electricity grids.
The UK energy regulator, the Office of Gas & Electricity Markets, granted an electricity interconnector license to the company to connect Chickerell in southwest England with Maneul in northern France.
A second license was granted for a cable linking Cornwall with Brittany, the regulator said.
A 2000 MW subsea cable owned by National Grid of the UK and RTE France, the power-transmission unit of Electricite de France, already connects the two networks further east of Imera's proposed routes.
Imera announced plans for its Irish Sea connectors last year with an ambitious start-up date of 2010.
