1 April 2008 - E.ON has entered into the United Kingdom's government's carbon capture and storage (CCS) competition to get funding for its Kingsnorth coal-fired project in Kent, the company said in a statement.
E.ON has entered into the competition for CCS technology in conjunction with partners Arup, EPRI, Fluor, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Penspen and Tullow Oil Plc.
The planning application for the Kingsnorth plant is expected to be filed later in the year.
The government has launched the competition to promote the use of carbon storage after the burning of fossil fuels. Under the competition, companies with projects in the United Kingdom can seek funding for projects using this technology.
RWE' has already expressed interest in applying for the funding which will only be awarded to one project. Today is the closing day for entering the competition and once all the entries have been received, the UK government will choose which will go through to a second application phase in May.
A preferred bidder is expected to be announced mid-2009. The amount of funding will depend on the size of the winning project.
