24 March 2008 -- Wyoming regulators gave final approval to Black Hills Corp. to build a 100 MW power plant east of Gillette, Wyo. Construction of Wygen III is expected to take 24 to 30 months and cost an expected $255 million, or $2,550/kW.

The Wyoming Public Service Commission approved a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the project. The plant received approval from the Industrial Siting Council in January. Black Hills Power said they expect construction to begin immediately on Wygen III, which will be built alongside the existing Wygen II plant. The two plants will share a control room as well as coal-handing facilities and other infrastructure.
