Electrabel to order 500 MW of wind turbines

5 March 2008 - Electrabel, part of the Suez Group, has signed an agreement with German wind turbine manufacturer REpower to order a maximum of 250 of its wind turbines with a total capacity of 500 MW.

The turbines are of the REpower MM82 and MM92 class with a rating of 2 MW and hub heights of 80 m and 100 m. They are slated to be delivered in the period from 2009-11 for the construction of wind farms across Europe.

The Suez Group had previously announced its intention to develop their renewable energy generation capacity, and has set itself the goal of having 18 per cent of its capacity from renewable sources by 2009.

To achieve this, it is developing a balanced European portfolio of renewable energy sources based on multiple technologies including hydropower, biomass, photovoltaics and wind power.
