Duke sells gas-fired peaking plant for $114/kW

15 February 2008 -- Duke Energy is selling a 480 MW natural gas-fired peaking station in Tennessee to the Tennessee Valley Authority for $55 million, or $114/kW.

The plant has four combustion turbine units. The sale is expected to close in the second quarter of 2008 and is subject to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval.

Duke said the market area served by the Brownsville plant is no longer a strategic fit. The facility will help TVA supplement its peaking capacity in the region.
