FPL Energy plans 200 MW wind farm in N. Dakota

17 January 2008 -- FPL Energy told North Dakota regulators it plans to build a 200 MW wind farm, which would include 133 turbines. It will cost an estimated $350 million to build ($1,750 a kilowatt), according to a report by the Associated Press.

The company said in a letter to the commission that it hopes to file a formal permit application by Feb. 5. It wants a permit by May 1 to finish work on the wind farm by year's end to qualify for a federal tax break for the project.

FPL earlier developed a project in northeastern North Dakota, with Minnkota Power Cooperative of Grand Forks and Otter Tail Power Co. It has 106 turbines capable of generating 159 MW. FPL plans to add 27 turbines, capable of generating 40 MW, to the project.
