31 December 2007 - South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co will build a $261.7m power plant for General Electricity Company of Libya, its second order from the country in December.
According to Bloomberg, construction of the facility in Sirte, about 500 km (311 miles) west of the capital city of Tripoli, will be completed in December 2011, the Changwon, South Korea-based company said in a regulatory filing.
South Korean contractors, including Doosan Heavy and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., have received record orders from overseas this year as rising oil prices and economic growth increased demand for oil refineries, power plants and homes.
The plant in Sirte will have a capacity of 1400 MW, Doosan Heavy said. On 13 December, Doosan Heavy announced a $267.5m order from General Electricity of Libya, the state power company, to build a plant by December 2011.
