14 December 2007 - Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa has issued a decree to create a body responsible for power and water in the kingdom that will assume the powers and responsibilities currently held by the Ministry of Electricity and Water.

The Electricity & Water Authority will be headed by a cabinet minister and will have an administrative body, which will include a chairman and four members.
The administrative body will be responsible for setting up programmes and managing the authority's financial affairs.

The budget for this year's Electricity & Water Ministry will be transferred to the new authority.
