Kentucky advanced-coal project obtains air permit

3 December 2007 -- A proposed coal-gasification power plant in Kentucky will move forward after obtaining an air permit from Kentucky environmental regulators. The Kentucky Division for Air Quality issued an air permit for the 630-MW Cash Creek IGCC plant planned for Henderson County, Kentucky.

The project needs additional regulatory approval before construction is scheduled to begin next year. Operation of the plant is expected in 2011 or 2012.

Earlier this year, GE Energy Financial Services said it acquired a 20 percent equity interest in the company developing the Cash Creek project. No terms were disclosed.
