Black Hills Corporation selects Black & Veatch technology

19 November 2007 -- Black & Veatch was selected by Black Hills Generation for the design and engineering of a new 100 MW coal-fired unit near Gillette, Wyo.

The unit will be among plants with the lowest emissions for a coal-fired generating plant in the United States, and will be designed with two technologies for mercury removal.

The new coal-fueled unit is currently in the regulatory approval process. The complex provides electricity to customers in Cheyenne, Sheridan and Gillette, Wyo., the Black Hills region including Rapid City, S.D., and surrounding areas of western-south Dakota, eastern Wyoming and parts of Nebraska.

As program manager, Black & Veatch will use its proprietary design tool, POWRTRAK, to perform all detailed mechanical engineering of the plant and oversee electrical and structural engineering of the new unit and its air quality control systems.
