6 November 2007 - The German cartel office has compiled a 30-page dossier accusing Germany's four biggest power companies - E.ON, RWE, ENBW and Vattenfall Europe - of price fixing and collusion.
According to media reports, managers and CEOs of power companies met in secret meetings between 2003 and 2006, exchanging "sensitive company secrets and coordinating market strategies."
Germany's biggest utility, E.ON, said in a statement that the content of the cartel office's dossier "has been known to E.ON for a long time and contains a totally selective compilation of information."
The company also said the report is "one-sided and legally unbinding" and that E.ON never manipulated electricity prices at the German power exchange EEX and was not involved in collusion with other power companies.
E.ON said the content of the cartel office report has been known by the EC since May 2006.
The utility also said it "surely is no coincidence" that the report was leaked to the media at the same time as the parliament debate over Germany's cartel law.
