EDF Energy gets approval to build UK CCGT plant

2 November 2007 - EDF Energy has received consent from the UK Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform to build a new combined cycle gas turbine power plant at West Burton in Nottinghamshire.

The consent allows EDF Energy to proceed to the next development phase of the project. The gas turbines for the plant will be supplied by GE Energy as part of a Europe-wide deal with EDF Group for the supply of turbines and associated services.

The proposed new station is planned to have a capacity of around 1300MW, enough to supply the needs of around 1.5m homes. The investment in combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) is a first and immediate step in the diversification of its generation mix. It is also a step in enabling EDF Energy to start reducing the carbon intensity of its generation fleet.
