30 October 2007 - Spanish energy company Endesa has received the definitive permit to build two 430 MW combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) on a 12 hectare site in the Lacq region in Southern France.
Investment in the new plants, which are slated to come onstream in 2010, will total around €500m ($721m).
Endesa France selected the Lacq region due to its ideal connectivity to gas and water resources in addition to a 400 kV transmission network. The decision was further underpinned by the extensive regional industrial platform and the support lent by local authorities.
The CCGT will enable Endesa France to diversify the fuel used at its generation assets by introducing natural gas. The move is aimed at establishing a more balanced, competitive and environmentally compatible generation portfolio.
