Progress Energy plans natural gas plant addition

29 October 2007 -- Progress Energy Carolinas will invest an estimated $700 million to $750 million in new natural gas generation and transmission capability at its energy complex in Richmond County, NC. The company plans to build a 570 MW combined-cycle natural gas-fired plant at the energy complex.

Progress Energy also plans a new 230 kV transmission line of approximately 64 miles between electric substations in Richmond County and Cumberland County. It expects to complete the plant and transmission line construction by June 1, 2011.
