Joint development of 1000 MW Romanian power plant

26 October 2007 - Vimetco, a global producer of aluminium products, has entered into a joint development agreement with Interagro to build a power plant in Romania.

The coal fired power plant will have a generation capacity of approximately 1000 MW. Alro SA, Vimetco's aluminium plant in Slatina, Romania, will use part of the electricity generated.

The coal-fired plant will have state-of-the-art equipment and will meet all the EU environmental requirements. It is expected to be operational by 2012.

The decision to build its own power plant was taken by Vimetco "in order to secure long-term electricity supply and independence from external sources," the company said.

InterAgro is a privately owned Romanian-English company founded in 1994, mainly involved in cereals and technical plants growth and the foreign trade, especially the export of fertilizers for agriculture.
