The 2006 Best Gas-fired Project finalists are Portland General Electric's Port Westward Generating Plant and Florida Power & Light Co.'s Turkey Point Expansion Project.

Finalists for the Best Coal-fired Project are Mid American Energy Co.'s Walter Scott Jr. Energy Center and Northern States Power Co.'s Allen S. King Plant Rehabilitation Project.

In the renewable/sustainable energy category, the finalists are Sea Scape Energy Ltd.'s Burbo Bank Offshore wind farm (UK) and UPC Wind's and BQ Energy's Steel Winds wind farm.

TXU Generating Co.'s Comanche Peak U1 Steam Generator Replacement and STP Nuclear Operating Co.'s South Texas Project LP Turbine Replacement are the two finalists for the Best Nuclear Project.

"The world's appetite for energy continues to grow. Companies like those represented by this year's project finalists are instrumental in meeting the growing demand," said Richard G. "Power Engineering magazine is once again pleased to be able to recognize some of the exceptional power generation projects that were completed in the past year."

The Projects of the Year Awards winners will be announced at a gala awards banquet on December 10, at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, La., as part of the POWER-GEN International Conference and Exhibition.
