Morocco receives $187m loan from Islamic bank for gas power plant

9 October 2007 - The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has signed a loan agreement with Morocco's National Electricity Office (ONE) worth 1.5bn dirham ($187m) to finance the construction of a 300 MW gas powered electricity plant in Mohammedia, according to official sources.

The project is one of the plans launched by the ONE in 2006 aimed at meeting growing demand and ensure the reliability of power supply in the coming years, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the ONE.

The IDB has financed several other power projects in Morocco, such as the rural electrification program.
