New UK nuclear power plants likely to get approval in November

4 October 2007 - The UK government is likely to give approval for the construction of a new generation of nuclear power plants in November, according to press reports.

According to the UK website This is Money, support for nuclear power is increasing, as indicated in polls, the report said. For example, a poll conducted by Opinion Leader Research showed that 46 per cent of the 1000 people interviewed favoured the building of nuclear power stations, and 25 per cent were against the proposal.

Another opinion poll revealed 72 per cent support from MPs (Members of Parliament).

Meanwhile, the need for an immediate decision on the issue is pressing because most of the 18 nuclear power plants in the UK will reach their life expectancy by 2020.
