AEP completes purchase of Dresden plant

American Electric Power (AEP) announced that it has completed the purchase of a natural gas-fired power plant under construction near Dresden, Ohio, from Dresden Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Dominion.

AEP announced in August that it had agreed to purchase the Dresden plant through its AEP Generating Company subsidiary for approximately $85 million.

AEP expects the plant to be operational in 2009 or 2010. When completed, Dresden will be a nominal 580-MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant.
