ISL Wins Contract to Assist NRC with New-Plant Applications

Information Systems Laboratories (ISL) has been awarded a $33.8 million contract to assist the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in reviewing utility company license applications to build new nuclear power plants. ISL will be supporting the NRC activities aimed at ensuring the overall safety and adequacy of nuclear power plant design, construction, and operations. The contract work, to be undertaken over the next five years by ISL's Nuclear Systems Analysis Division will involve the new AP1000 pressurized water reactor designed by Westinghouse Electric Company. Under the terms of the contract, ISL will lead a team of subcontractors to provide assistance to the NRC in a number of areas involving licensing of AP1000 plant applications.

The resurgence of nuclear power plant construction planning has increased the regulatory agency's workload and prompted it to seek outside help in processing the new license applications.
