Progress Energy hit by fine

3 September 2007 - Nuclear regulators have fined Progress Energy $65 000 for a 2005 incident in which contract security officers cheated on qualification tests with the help of their supervisors at the Shearon Harris nuclear power plant near Raleigh, N.C.

Progress Energy said it would not contest the penalty. The company said the individuals found to have cheated are no longer working at any of its plants and that the entire Harris security force was retested with the oversight of training personnel.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Thursday also issued violation notices against the security contractor, Securitas Security Services USA Inc., and against the supervisors.
