Haryana to spend Rs 24,312 crores to strengthen power sector

27 August 2007 - The Haryana Government intends to spend Rs 24,312 crores on strengthening the power transmission and distribution systems in the state during 11th Five Year Plan period, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said. He said the government gave top priority to the power sector with an aim to supply adequate power to its consumers.

"During next two-and-a-half years, the state would generate an additional 5000 MW of power," Hooda said after laying the foundation stone of 33KV sub-station at Bichpari village. He said a number of power projects had been initiated including setting up of a 600 MW thermal plant at Yamuna Nagar and 1200 MW thermal plant at Khedar in Hissar district.

The state would also contribute 50 per cent of power to the proposed 1500 MW power plant at Jhajjar slated to be ready before the commencement of 2010 Common Wealth Games, he said.

Another 1320 MW power plant would be set up at Jhajjar and the state would get 90 per cent of the power generated by this project.
