25-April-2007 -- ComEd and Ameren customers across Illinois are being hit hard by skyrocketing electric bills, and, according to a press release issued by the American Association of Retired People (AARP), several citizen organizations are urging the Senate to come up with rate relief for the state's ratepayers.
While high bills continue to plague consumers as the Senate's failure to pass rate relief legislation for both ComEd and Ameren consumers is causing people least able to bear the blow of high electric bills to be hit hardest, said the AARP's press release. A broad partnership of groups are joining forces at the State Capitol to deliver tens of thousands of petitions, postcards and complaints urging the Senate to pass a statewide solution to the electric rate hike crisis.
Illinois' 10 year electric rate freeze expired January 1, 2007, exposing ComEd and Ameren customers to extremely high rate increases, The coalition of citizens' groups feels there is an urgent need for state lawmakers to act in the best interest of all consumers by rolling back electrical rates to secure affordable electricity for all consumers.
