Minnesota Power to develop 25 MW wind farm

20 April 2007 -- Minnesota Power plans to build, own and operate the proposed $50 million, 25 MW Minnesota Power Taconite Ridge I Energy Center in northern Minnesota.

The wind farm will include 10, 2.5 MW turbines built by Clipper Windpower. Existing infrastructure will allow Minnesota Power to move the energy through its system without building additional transmission lines.

Minnesota Power already uses around 50 MW of wind energy from the Oliver Wind 1 Energy Center in North Dakota and has contracted to add another 50 MW of wind energy from North Dakota by the end of 2007.

The Taconite Ridge facility is expected to be operational by mid-2008. The company said it intends to seek current cost recovery through the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
