Nine Mile Point posts record outage turnaround

16 April 2007 -- Constellation Energy said its Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, N.Y., has completed a scheduled refueling outage at Unit 1. The refueling outage was completed in 29 days—the shortest duration ever for Nine Mile Point's Unit 1. The previous Unit 1 refueling outage was 38 days.

In addition to normal refueling activities, plant personnel performed several material improvement modifications during the outage including reactor recirculation motor replacements, reactor recirculation pump seal replacements and equipment upgrades in the switchyard. Normal refueling and maintenance activities included fuel handling and in- vessel inspections, as well as upgrades and routine replacements of equipment components including motors, valves, and seals.
