TECO adds gas capacity at Polk station

9 April 2007 -- Tampa Electric has completed construction of two new 160 MW simple-cycle generator units at its Polk Power Station. The combustion turbines will generate electricity at Polk Units 4 and 5.

Polk Power Station currently includes Polk Unit 1, a 250-MW integrated coal gasification combined cycle baseload facility and Polk Units 2 and 3, 160-MW natural gas or distillate oil fueled peaking units. Construction of both units took approximately eight months. Polk Power Station is also the site of Tampa Electric's proposed Unit 6, a $1.5-billion 630 MW facility that would be operational in 2013.
