International consortium to build 1200 MW coal plant in South Sumatra

5 April 2007 - PT Triaryani, Sojitz Corporation from Japan and AES Corporation from the USA have formed a consortium to build a coal fired power plant in Musi Rawas, South Sumatra.

The power plant with a capacity of 1200 MW will be built with an investment of $1.5bn, Triaryani President Teddy Setiawan said. The consortium has signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned electricity company PLN, which will buy power to be produced by the project, Teddy said.

AES will be the majority shareholder of a special purpose company to be established to operate the plant. Nasri Sebayang, a PLN executive, said that the power from the Musi Rawas power plant would be supplied to Java.
