DTE Energy Services to test clean coal technology

27 March 2007 -- MobotecUSA of Walnut Creek, CA, and EXPORTech Company, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, have formed a joint venture, MagMill Co. LLC, to commercialize the MagMill technology, which cleans coal prior to combustion. The MagMill combines the plant's existing pulverizer with a retrofit magnetic separator to remove sulfur and associated pollutants such as mercury and arsenic before they reach the burner.

MagMill LLC and DTE Energy Services (the non-regulated arm of DTE Energy) will install a 2 to 3 ton-per-hour MagMill retrofit for coal testing at the DTEES pulverizing facility in Vicksburg, MS. The MagMill will be used to demonstrate its ability to improve the quality of coals for clients of both companies. The installation is expected to be operational and available for testing in mid-2007.
