Indian city Delhi to get power from Himachal state through National Grid

26 March 2007 - The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh will supply electricity to the northern grid during the current summer season to meet the growing demand of power.

"Himachal Pradesh government will supply 450 million units of electricity from April to August this year to the National Grid so as to address the power shortage in national capital Delhi and other neighbouring states," state's Energy Minister Vidya Stokes said here today.

With the commencement of summer season, faster melting of snow will increase the water level in the rivers which, in turn, will provide further impetus to the power generation in the state, she told reporters here.

Hailing Himachal Pradesh as the only fully-electrified state in India, Stokes said that an estimated 6000 MW additional energy will be generated in the state during the 11th five year plan.

"Out of 6000 MW energy, around 975 MW will be harnessed in the state sector while the 2800 MW would be generated in the central and joint sector. Around 1700 MW electricity would be produced in the private sector in the state," the minister said.
