EDF commissions 72 MW wind farm in Italy

19 March 2007 - EDF has announced the entry into service of the Sant'Agata wind farm in Italy.

Located in the Puglia region of southern Italy, it comprises 36 Vestas V80 windmills, each with a unit capacity of 2 MW.

EDF said that the 72 MW power plant represents a total investment of €98m ($131m). It was developed and built together with Fri-El Green Power, the Italian partner of EDF Energies Nouvelles' subsidiary in Italy.

Fri-El Green Power handled development and managed local contacts, while EDF Energies Nouvelles was in charge of the technical aspects, arranged financing and oversaw construction.

The wind farm is 50 per cent owned by EDF EN Italia, a 95 per cent held subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles. This partnership has already overseen completion of two wind farms: a 22 MW facility in Sardinia (Nurri) that was commissioned in 2004 and a 70 MW facility in Campania (Andretta) that came on stream in 2005.
