India green lights two nuclear plants in Rajasthan

9 March 2007 - New Delhi has given in principle approval for setting up two 700 MW nuclear plants at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan.

"With a view to utilize the full potential of existing inland sites, the government has accorded in principle approval for setting up two 700 MW pressurized heavy water reactors at Rawatbhata site," Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan told the Lower House of Parliament.

He said the government has received a request from the government of Rajasthan for setting up a nuclear power station at Banswara. "No decision has been taken on Banswara site," Chavan said.
