Enel to complete Slovakian nuclear plant

26 February 2007 - Enel and the Slovakian government have agreed that the Italian utility will finish building two nuclear reactors at the Slovak power plant Mochovce for about $2.4bn.

In a joint statement, they said that Enel unit Slovenske Elektrarne has accelerated work on a detailed examination of the project, and plans to launch the project ahead of the previous schedule.

"The prime minister (Robert Fico) has welcomed favourably the Enel decision, believing it to be in line with the strategic objectives of the Slovak government in the energy sector," the statement said.

Fico told Enel CEO Fulvio Conti that the country intends to set up a European forum on nuclear energy, sited in Slovakia, and in line with European Commission efforts on thise energy source.
