16 February 2007 -- GE Energy will supply 300 of its 1.5-MW wind turbines to Noble Environmental Power for 2007 and 2008 projects that will increase New York State's wind power capacity by 450 MW.
Based in Essex, Conn., Noble Environmental Power has projects under active development in New York and Michigan. The company will use the new GE turbines for the second phases of the Bliss Windpark, located in Wyoming County in western New York, and the Clinton Windpark, located in Clinton County in northern New York.
Plans call for selling all of the power from the wind projects to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) for dispatch through the state electricity grid.
The new projects will significantly increase New York's total wind capacity. As of Dec. 31, 2006, the state's installed wind energy capacity stood at 370 MW, according to the American Wind Energy Association. Noble Environmental Power's projects will more than double that capacity.
Noble Environmental Power said it expects to be the largest wind producer in New York state by the end of 2007.
