16 February 2007 -- Brookfield Power announced that it has completed the acquisition of two hydroelectric generating facilities from Raquette Hydro Power Ltd. for an undisclosed price.
This acquisition includes the Hewittville and Unionville hydroelectric generating stations located on the Raquette River in New York. These run-of-the-river facilities have a combined generating capacity of 6 MW. All power will continue to be sold to Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, an electricity distributor and a subsidiary of National Grid, under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement.
In other news, a subsidiary of Brookfield Power, Erie Boulevard Hydropower L.P., reached an agreement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regarding a 40-year license approval to operate the School Street hydropower facility.
The 38.8 MW project, located on the Mohawk River in Albany and Saratoga Counties in upstate New York, includes provisions for 11 MW of increased power generation, a fish passage and aesthetic flows to protect the scenic quality of Cohoes Falls. Consistent with the settlement, the new license also includes protection for fishery resources in addition to recreational and cultural resource measures.
