Fuel Tech awarded multi-year contract for SO3 technology

9 February 2007 -- Fuel Tech, Inc. announced it was awarded a three-year FUEL CHEM order by an existing electric utility customer in the Southeastern United States.

The order covers three coal-fired units, comprising two existing FUEL CHEM installations plus a third unit for which modeling is underway and chemical injection is expected to commence early in the second quarter.

The utility will use the TIFI or Targeted In-Furnace Injection technology, which controls sulfur trioxide (SO3) mitigation as well as slag inhibition for this unit's feedstock of high-sulfur, high slagging Northern Appalachian coal.

Fuel Tech said this announcement represents the largest Fuel Chem program order in the company's history. At 1,800 MW, this order is also the largest site-wide implementation of the Fuel Chem program.
