8 January 2007 -- Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., has been awarded a contract for the design, supply and erection of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems from Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc. for their coal-fired Units 1 & 2 at the Seminole Generating Station located in Palatka, Florida, US. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The contract includes the design and supply of SCR systems for the station's two 650 MW-class coal fired units. Hitachi Power Systems said the SCR systems will remove high levels of NOx over many operating load ranges and fuel types and will operate year-round.
Part of the SCR system supply includes a urea-to-ammonia system where a urea solution is converted to gaseous ammonia for the SCR process. This system avoids the onsite storage and handling of ammonia. The construction work will span over several years and is expected to start this month. The erection portion of the work will be performed by W.W. Gay, a local contractor.
