Finnish firm secures Azerbaijan plant deal

January 3 2007 - Finnish power plant provider Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract worth €160 mn ($212 mn) to supply equipment for a 300 MW project in Azerbaijan.

The multi-fuel power plant will be delivered to AzerEnerji, the national energy company of Azerbaijan, during the autumn of 2008. Wartsila will deliver 18 of its 18V50DF generating sets and related equipment to the new plant, which is to be located in Sangachal, 50 km south of the capital Baku.

In 2005, AzerEnerji ordered five power plants from Wartsila, totalling 450 MW. The first two have been taken into commercial operation and three plants were commissioned at the end of 2006.
