Alstom to refurbish Oklahoma hydro plant

21 December 2006 -- Alstom has been awarded a contract worth more than 50 million euros by the Grand River Dam Authority for the refurbishment of its Markham Ferry hydroelectric power plant in Oklahoma, US.

Alstom is in charge of the engineering, fabrication, supply, site work and commissioning of four 27 MW generating units. The scope of supply covers the rehabilitation of four Kaplan runners, wicket gates, new stator frames, new windings, new stator cores, new digital governors and new control systems.

To increase the safe passage of fish in the Grand River, the refurbished Kaplan runners will be of Alstom's modern oil-less design and technology, with self-lubricated bearings used for the runner hub mechanism instead of conventional oil-lubricated mechanisms.

The first unit is scheduled for delivery in 2008 and the last in 2011.
